about

This album marks a new composition period for Stapp. Four years ago he came up with a theory of harmony and rhythm as applied to a fictional planet called Eono. This musical allegory helped him create and explore new systems of rhythm, harmony, and sound, allowing him to graduate from and evolve from his early works: Myrrha's Red Book and MCSD. This is the first product since its inception.

All though this album might appear at first glance as 'free', each tune was rehearsed with certain rhythmic and harmonic principle in mind. Each piece with exception to the improvised solo tracks are marked with written parts for each instrument.

For each piece, each instrument had a specific and unique rhythmic/harmonic role that was planned and practiced. This juxtaposition of melodies and rhythms that seem contrary create a chaotic yet compelling momentum. On Eono, this chaos is very predictable, on Earth, not as much.

There is a gestalt listening experience one can appreciate as well. (As third dimensional beings, we can listen one way or the other. On Eono, the simultaneous experience is a given.) If you listen to one instrument alone, you will hear its own specific musical zone and development, independent of the others. If you draw your focus to the sound of the group, you will hear a specific and stylized cacophony that creates the album's conceit, throughout.

If you can hear both, simultaneously, perhaps you should question what planet you are from.
